Coalition President Suggests Industry Influence Delayed Mass. Siting Report
Joseph Carvalho, president of the Coalition for the Responsible Siting of Liquefied Natural Gas, has called the Massachusetts LNG Commission a “sham” after it missed a June 30 deadline for producing its formal report on LNG facility siting. “We all know there are lots of big money special interests at work here,” Carvalho said.
State Sen. Menard (D-Bristol and Plymouth) and state Rep. Correia (D-Bristol) attribute the delay to the need to complete the state budget by July 1. Menard says the LNG Commission will file a preliminary report next week and draft related legislation by the end of July. Correia indicated that the report deals with at least two sites in Massachusetts, including one off the coast of Gloucester. The Herald News has the detailed story.
