Bahamas Official: AES Proposal Under Consideration

Dr. Marcus Bethel, Minister of Energy and the Environment in the Bahamas, has told the Bahama Journal that the Dominican Republic’s environmental lawsuit against AES would not “have any impact whatsoever” on the Bahamian government’s consideration of AES’ LNG terminal proposal. The Bahamian attorney general had said previously that the government would consider the lawsuit.
Dr. Bethel also said that the LNG proposal “is undergoing active review at the very moment,” but that there is no timeline for decision; he further stated that a Bahamian LNG terminal is a “high priority” for various developers and that therefore developers “are prepared to live with” delays in the process.
