Baltimore County Council Approves Legislation Restricting LNG Terminal Siting
The Dundalk Eagle reports that local legislation passed unanimously by the Baltimore County Council on Monday, would require LNG facilities proposed within five miles of a residential area to hold a special public hearing and obtain a permit from the County. The legislation is aimed at AES’ Sparrows Point terminal proposed for Maryland. Separately, U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) voiced opposition to the Sparrows Point project in a June 15 letter to FERC, saying that the terminal and its pipeline pose a threat to public safety. Mikulski’s letter to FERC is here. [Access to archived articles requires a fee.]
