Riley’s Comments Suggest Opposition to Compass Port

The Mobile Register  writes that remarks made by Alabama Gov. Bob Riley at yesterday’s public hearing on ConocoPhillips’ proposed Compass Port LNG terminal indicate that he may veto the project, which he must do by June 11. When Riley asked the attendees if any of them supported the proposal and no one came forward, he said, “All of you here today have made my decision much easier.” The Governor also commended Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s rejection of Freeport-McMoRan’s Main Pass Energy Hub LNG terminal, saying that he was “on the same page” as her. [Access to archived articles requires a fee.]
