Mike Mehlman, a mayoral candidate in Galveston, Texas, says each candidate for mayor or city council in Galveston should take a position on the handling of negotiations between the Wharves Board and BP, which resulted in a long-term lease to BP for the site of its proposed Pelican Island LNG terminal. Mehlman says the Wharves Board and city council should have considered safety issues before the Wharves Board agreed to the lease, and he criticizes the secrecy surrounding the negotiations.
