National Park Service Opposes Use of Outer Brewster Island for LNG

The Northeast regional director of the National Park Service told Gov. Romney in a letter that the proposed AES terminal on Outer Brewster Island would “have an adverse impact” on the surrounding environment and would “also set a dangerous precedent and send a message that units of the National Park System are available for exploitation.” However, an attorney for AES responded in a letter noting that other islands in the park allow commercial uses, including a water treatment facility and a fire training area.
