Environmental Group Seeks to Influence Shell on Gulf Landing
Members from a local environmental organization today will meet with Shell shareholders in the Netherlands to discuss the potential environmental impacts of the company’s Gulf Landing LNG terminal proposed for offshore Louisiana. The Gumbo Alliance for Safe LNG hopes to persuade Shell executives to switch from the open-loop to the closed-loop design, which they say poses a lower risk to marine life. In an effort to establish a baseline of marine species in the area of the Gulf Landing LNG terminal and allow for ongoing assessments of the terminal’s impact once it is operational, Shell is cooperating with Louisiana state fisheries and coastal officials in designing a study to identify fish species. Today’s Times-Picayune has the story.
