Deadline Looms for Governor’s Vote on Main Pass LNG Project

Although Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco has been receptive to LNG development in the state, administration members say she may veto Freeport-McMoRan’s Main Pass Energy Hub LNG project unless it is proved to be environmentally safe. Blanco has said previously that she will veto open-loop terminals that threaten the state’s fishing industry. Under the Deepwater Port Act, Blanco has until Sunday to approve, approve with conditions, or reject the terminal, which would be located 38 miles east of Venice, La.
