Bodman Unresponsive to Congressmen’s Request on Regional Siting
The Herald News today reports that DOE Secretary Samuel Bodman has yet to respond to a request by New England congressmen that he hold a summit on the regional siting of LNG facilities. The congressmen met with Bodman last week, and reiterated their request in a May 9 letter; a spokesman for Bodman said the Secretary has not seen the letter yet, but “certainly respects [the lawmaker’s] opinions.” Craig Stevens pointed out that the Secretary sponsored a forum this past March in Boston to educate the public on LNG. Stevens also says that the agency is interested in placing more LNG terminals in the region to meet increasing consumer demand. “We want to get more product to people quicker, and one way to do that is to site more liquefied natural gas terminals, and we are going to look to do that.”
