Blanco Explains Differences Between Main Pass and Gulf Landing
In response to questions about Gov. Blanco’s decision to veto Freeport McMoRan’s terminal but not Shell’s Gulf Landing terminal, which also is proposed off Louisiana’s coast, Blanco’s spokesperson Denise Bottcher said that the veto period for Shell’s terminal came early in the governor’s term and before the environmental controversy had solidified. According to Freeport spokesman Bill Collier, “clearly we’re being held to a different standard, but it’s possible the debate shifted since then.” Bottcher noted that after receiving its license, Shell agreed to accept monitoring by an advisory committee that will study the facility for three years. Today’s Advocate has the story.
