Quoddy Bay Official Seeks Support from Sunrise County Economic Committee

Quoddy Bay’s project manager yesterday presented details of the company’s proposed LNG terminal before the Sunrise County Economic Committee, which previously endorsed a rival project proposed by Downeast LNG. Brian Smith on Tuesday pitched his project to the committee, offering to deliver “initiatives” such as helping to attract cruise ships, returning rail service to the community, and providing jobs to locals. He acknowledged that attempts to reduce “noxious emissions” to about 100 tons per year might not be possible, and that a proposal to install a “floating bridge” as part of an evacuation plan is also up in the air. In response to a question from the Committee regarding ownership of Quoddy Bay LNG, Smith noted that it is a family business currently, but that Quoddy Bay might consider sharing 50% control with a partner.
