Property Owners Fight Expropriation for Canaport LNG Terminal
The CBC reports that seven property owners are challenging St. John’s attempt to use eminent domain to force the sale of their land for construction of an access road leading to the Irving/Repsol Canaport LNG terminal. The city was successful in securing land from other property owners near the proposed road; those who declined to sell will oppose the city at a public hearing today. A local Fredericton lawyer will determine whether the taking is “necessary, reasonable and fair.”
