Op-ed: Proposed Maine LNG Project Greater Threat than Canadian Projects
In response to an op-ed authored by the attorney for Quoddy Bay LLC, a Newburyport, Mass. resident says the LNG terminal proposed for Quoddy Bay is more dangerous than Canada’s proposed Canaport and Bear Head facilities. In response to the claim that it would be discriminatory for Canada to oppose the U.S. terminal while permitting two facilities nearby in Canada, the author asserts that “neither of [the Canadian] projects requires the passage of large ships through the narrow, often treacherous waters of Head Harbor Passage and Western Passage.” The author also notes that the Canadian terminals do not pose the dangers of the “raging currents” of Passamaquoddy Bay, the close proximity to a city or the potential problems evacuating Eastport. His opinion piece is available in today’s Bangor Daily News. [Access to archived articles requires a fee.]
