Legal Proceeding May Impact Bahamas’ Decision on AES’ Ocean Express Project
A Bahamian government official says that AES’ Ocean Express LNG terminal proposed for Ocean Cay will face additional scrutiny in light of the company’s legal troubles with the government of the Dominican Republic. Bahamasb2b reports that the Dominican government filed suit against AES in federal court in Virginia, alleging that AES is responsible for dumping industrial waste on the beaches in the Dominican Republic. According to an AES communications representative, the company will respond to the allegations when it is served with the lawsuit. Bahamanian Attorney General Allyson Maynard-Gibson noted that the government has yet to make a determination concerning the construction of an LNG facility, but remarked, “I think that you will have an announcement imminently about the matter of natural gas in the Bahamas.”
