No LNG Released in Elba Island Terminal Incident

The Associated Press reported yesterday that an LNG vessel broke free on Tuesday as it was unloading LNG at the Southern LNG facility on Elba Island. An official from the U.S. Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Office in Savannah, Ga. said that a safety mechanism kicked in to block any release of natural gas. In a letter dated March 14, FERC Staff, which was present at the facility when the incident occurred, authorized the facility to resume operations and reminded Southern LNG that it must file an incident report with FERC within two weeks. The letter is available in the FERC e-Library in Docket No. CP02-379. The AP article was carried yesterday via Energy Central Professional. [Subscription required]
