LNG Zoning Decision Challenged
Opponents of Calpine’s Skipanon LNG facility have appealed the city of Warrenton’s decision to implement zoning changes that would accommodate an LNG terminal. Cheryl Johnson of Columbia Riverkeeper said that by appealing, her group hopes “to ensure that the city commission does not give up local control” over the project. A lawyer representing Columbia Riverkeeper and People for Responsible Prosperity in the case said, “We are confident that LUBA [Oregon’s Land Use Board of Appeals] will recognize the city’s failure to adequately consider how the planned LNG (facility) will impact the community’s safety, economy and quality of life.” The details are in Tuesday’s Daily Astorian.
