Expert Refutes WGL’s Gas Leak Allegation
Speaking at an industry conference yesterday, an engineering expert dismissed WGL’s claim that imported LNG from Dominion’s Cove Point facility was “the key contributing factor” to the gas leaks in the utility’s pipeline distribution system. “We concluded there is no scientific basis to support the claim being made by WGL,” said Greg Haussmann of Exponent, an engineering consulting firm that has a presence in the LNG industry. Haussmann also addressed the apparently similar claims by KeySpan’s predecessor in the early 1990s regarding the impact of dry Canadian gas on its LDC system and noted that in that case scientific proof also was lacking. Details of the findings are in yesterday’s Platts LNG Daily. [Subscription required]
