Editorial: State and Federal Agencies Should Streamline LNG Review Process
The Bangor Daily News supports a regional approach for the siting of LNG facilities. The paper says that because the market can only support a fraction of the LNG terminals proposed, “communities and state departments expend resources analyzing and responding to proposals for facilities that will never be built.” In light of the emotional and financial impact the review process may have on communities, the paper argues that the Department of Energy should ease the burden by working with state government to determine which sites are appropriate. “If private developers pick from among these areas, they could be assured that their project will move along more quickly because the preliminary assessments, in terms of community support, environmental impacts and safety, had already been done,” the paper says.
