Philadelphia City Council Passes Nonbinding Resolution Opposing PGW Proposal

The Philadelphia City Council yesterday voted 12-2 in “unqualified opposition to any project that would create an LNG shipping terminal” in Port Richmond, despite not having the project proposal before it.  Council authorization of the proposal is required since it is proposed by PGW, the city’s utility. Council members Michael A. Nutter and Rick Mariano had voted against the measure, saying that they did not have enough information about the project. Philadelphia Mayor Street is a strong supporter of the terminal proposal. Despite the Council’s vote yesterday, Councilwoman Joan L. Krajewski said that the Council would still hold hearings after PGW selects a company to build the terminal. Today’s Philadelphia Inquirer has the report.

According to today’s Philadelphia Daily News, PGW will pursue the project despite the Council’s objections.
