N.J. Politician Challenges Delaware’s Emergency Response Ability
N.J. Assemblyman John Burzichelli has expressed doubts over Delaware’s ability to police the Delaware River, and wants the New Jersey State Police to evaluate “Delaware’s level of preparedness and the resources used to respond” to emergency incidents in that area. “My confidence in their ability to respond is not high. This is not saber rattling,” he said. The question arises out of an ongoing debate over the New Jersey-Delaware border, sparked by Delaware’s refusal to permit BP’s proposed Crown Landing LNG terminal. Burzichelli claims that jurisdictional confusion could prevent or delay effective emergency response on the river. “The border is awkward and doesn’t work,” he said.
