LNG Buffer Legislation at Standstill in Massachusetts State House

Lawmakers met yesterday to alter a bill that would require buffer zones for LNG vessels traveling to the proposed Weaver’s Cove facility, but no progress was made. “I’m going to continue to work to push the bill forward,” said Massachusetts State Sen. Michael Morrissey, D-Quincy. “I think there is a strong foundation for this piece of legislation and the right thing to do is to let the House vote on this.” Other representatives support the bill, but want to change it to avoid conflicts with federal law. A bill creating a commission on LNG siting is also in the works. Today’s Herald News has the story.
