Kitimat LNG Eyes Markets Beyond US West Coast
World Gas Intelligence today reports that the proposed Kitimat LNG terminal in British Columbia is receiving favorable reviews from environmentalists and area residents. Ilene Schmaltz, vice president of supply and marketing, credits the area’s familiarity with industry and the company’s early consultations with environmental groups. The company has applied for environmental permits and expects feedback next month. The facility would serve the US West Coast market upon completion in April 2009, but Kitimat LNG also is seeking a consumer base as far as Chicago. “We’re not relying on one particular market,” said Schmaltz. “But we are studying multiple markets for us to enter.” [Subscription required]
