Today’s World Gas Intelligence uses Weaver’s Cove to highlight ongoing tensions between local and federal control of LNG terminal siting. Although opponents were unable to stop federal approval of the terminal, the presence of the Brightman Street Bridge makes it unclear how Hess will get LNG to the terminal if it is built. WGI notes that, despite the Energy Policy Act of 2005 and FERC’s support for LNG projects, the Commission “does not wield an iron fist” and “states have ample opportunity to flex their muscle.” [Subscription required]
