BP and New Jersey disagree on how to allocate the costs of security measures required by the U.S. Coast Guard’s preliminary approval of the Crown Landing LNG terminal. BP says that it may pay as much as $6 million a year in state and local property taxes, and asks, “So what services do we get in return for those taxes?” However, Assemblyman John Burzichelli of Paulsboro, says it is not “reasonable to introduce an operation that would require special treatment” and expect state and local government to defray costs “just because this company will be paying some property taxes.” Saturday’s edition of Today’s Sunbeam has the story.
